Benalmádena town, located on the Costa del Sol, is looking to attract cycling enthusiasts with a new mountain bike 'park' and a network of cycle trails on Monte Calamorro, its highest mountain. The 760-meter-high mountain, which offers panoramic views of the area, is already a popular attraction thanks to its cable car and hiking trails, and the town hopes to add cycling to its list of leisure activities.
The project involves creating special routes and obstacles specifically designed for mountain bikes. The experience will begin with a cable car ride to the summit of Monte Calamorro, followed by a thrilling descent down runs that feature various obstacles. The town hall hopes to collaborate with local businesses to create a comprehensive cycling experience and de-seasonalize the tourist industry.
The town's mayor, Víctor Navas, believes that this sporting venture will boost tourism in Benalmádena from October to April and diversify the town's tourist offer. He plans to create a special platform between the town hall and local businesses who want to be part of the project. One of the first businesses to join the initiative is Cristina Montero, from the Hotel Palmasol, who will set up a bike-station to provide support and facilities for the project.
Navas hopes to sell this project as a complete experience, enhancing the services that are already offered. With this new venture, Benalmádena aims to position itself on the Andalusian cycle tourism map and increase its sports and leisure appeal, providing a new attraction for visitors to the area.
