Those already fortunate enough to have landed one of the many villas for sale in Marbella and who have lived in the city for some time may not require much convincing of its merits. However, for those who have not yet discovered the many attractions and charms of this corner of the Costa del Sol, the formation of a Special Tourism Council for the city may just do the trick.
Plans for such a council have been given the green light, with the government team spokesman, Felix Romero, commenting that “the aim of the new body will be to plan strategies for the sector, and the active promotion of tourism in Marbella.”
The entity will have the responsibility of promoting, managing and actively developing tourism in the city, the private sector combining with the public sector to this end. A programme of consultation, participation and advice will also be implemented for the creation and planning of strategies among various elements of the tourism industry.
Mayor Ángeles Muñoz will chair the council, while the vice president role will be assumed by Juan José González, the president of the Centre for Tourism Initiatives (CIT) Marbella. Other representatives will be appointed by the city of Marbella, alongside five CIT-appointed representatives from the private sector.
Working groups are also set to be created by representatives from local hotels, golf courses, restaurants, health centres and selected businesses for the development of joint measures related to the project.
Such news coincides with various other headlines showing the considerable appetite for investment in Marbella, for the benefit of tourists and residents alike. For example, new sports facilities were recently handed over to the council by Real Madrid footballer Sergios Ramos, who is a shareholder in the company responsible for the construction of the new Francisco Norte underground car park.
A key part of the agreement with the council was that sports facilities would be constructed for public use on top of the car park. The footballer is a fan of Marbella summers, and has been among many people in recent times to seize upon the opportunity to plough money into the city.
His are ambitions shared with many of those choosing to take advantage of the vast – and rapidly increasing – range of villas for sale in Marbella, as can be found through an esteemed property agent like One Marbella.
